The International Max Planck Research School for Chemistry and Physics of Quantum Materials (IMPRS-CPQM) started in January 2016 as a tri-institutional PhD programme. In IMPRS-CPQM, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany, formally collaborates with two universities - Technische Universität Dresden and the University of St Andrews (Scotland) - to offer an internationally leading PhD programme in the field of materials chemistry and physics. Our school differs from most other International Max Planck Research Schools in that we also have a UK university as a full-scale formal partner in our school.

IMPRS-CPQM also collaborates with additional research partners who enhance the scientific expertise in our fields of research and thus increase the number of exciting research opportunities.

The Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) is one of the largest universities in Germany. Its research activities in the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry and Food Chemistry are a significant contribution to IMPRS-CPQM. more

University of St Andrews

The University of St Andrews is one of the UK’s foremost ancient universities and is located at the eastern coast of Scotland. Its physics department, which is involved in IMPRS-CPQM, is one of the strongest in the UK. more

International Max Planck Research Schools

International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) are structured PhD programs, in which individual Max Planck Institutes collaborate with universities. This effort to promote PhD level research and training started in the year 2000. Today, virtually every Max Planck Institute runs an IMPRS program.
