Pressure-tuning of topological materials
Topological materials attract a huge attention, recently. Their properties are invariant under topological transformations and indicate the existence of Majorana, Weyl and Dirac fermions. External pressure is an ideal and clean tool to tune the properties of topological materials, such as the Weyl semimetals.
In this project, we will combine hydrostatic pressure experiments on electrical transport, such as magnetoresistance and Hall-effect, with microscopic measurements by nuclear magnetic resonance. In that, we will obtain complementary information on the band structure, density of states, on the charge carriers and their mobility, but also on magnetic and superconducting properties. We are in particular interested in materials, such as MoTe2, where the existence of topological superconducting phases has been proposed..
For this project, we are looking for a PhD student with strong experimental skills, who is interested in experiments under multi-extreme conditions.
