Quantum materials on the microscopic and mesoscopic scale

A major new thrust at MPI CPfS is the study of micro-sized samples from across the range of correlated and topological matter. One of the benefits of these new capabilities is the ability to work with individual crystallites of samples prepared using the techniques of solid-state chemistry, considerably expanding the chemistry-physics collaborative interface, and the ability to prepare micro-scale devices from macroscopic single-crystalline materials. In order to complement our capabilities to prepare microscopic devices, we also develop and apply novel experimental ways to measure them. Our research activities also include the theoretical description of microscopic and mesoscopic systems.
